Virgin Galactic’s new spaceship named the VSS Unity by Stephen Hawking got a grand unveiling by the head of the company, Sir Richard Branson. Stephen Hawking has reiterated that he would love to fly on board this spaceship.
Four generations of Richard Branson’s family were there to lend their approval to the initiative. These included his mother Eve, Richard himself, his son Sam and his granddaughter Eva Deia.
Eva is just a one year old. In fact, Eva celebrated the occasion by drinking milk instead of popping the cork of the usual champagne bottle.
Also a live video clip was seen by all those present of Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai who lauded the attempt at extending space travel.
Whereas SpaceShipTwo is manufactured by The Spaceship Company, which is Virgin Galactic’s manufacturing arm, this latest attempt was made in conjunction with its automobile partner Land Rover.
Richard said that together thay could bring about an approach to space that had been only dreamt of up until now. This would be a step forward in bringing positive changes on earth as well.
He went on to praise the company’s beautiful new spaceship. It was a cherished goal and proof of the fact that teamwork and skillful handling as well as self esteem went a long way in achieving objectives.
This was provided that there was a common purpose. In the future when people find fun in the sun on the beach a boring deal, they can always hop on board the VSS Unity for a trip to space.
The VSS Unity is based on the SpaceShipTwo of erstwhile times. It has seating capacity for half a dozen passengers and is controlled by two pilots.
When the testing for this spaceship begins it will probably be in California and New Mexico. The spaceship will travel at 3.5 times the speed of sound.
For the first time ever, ordinary citizens who have bought a ticket can experience the silence of space, a panoramic view of planet earth and weightlessness. This will be a wonderful experience.
The new spaceship even has Stephen Hawking’s seal of approval. He lauded the new space age and spoke of how exploring space could be a great unifier of mankind.
It is about time that the ordinary man gets a chance to fly off into space. What was an experience reserved for astronauts and VIPs may finally become the province of the common man on the street.
