  • Is 5th time the charm for Leonardo DiCaprio at the Oscars?

Almost everyone on the Oscar circuit wants ‘The Revenant’ actor to finally win the Best Actor category.

The 2016 Academy Awards are just a few days away. It can be assumed 2016 ceremony is all about whether or not Leonardo DiCaprio will win.

Update: Leonardo DiCaprio won the Oscar 2016. Our Oscars prediction was correct.

Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for the film ‘The Revenant’ in the Best Actor category. This is the fifth time Leonardo DiCaprio has been nominated for the same category.

By now almost anyone with knowledge of the Oscars wants Leonardo DiCaprio to win the Oscar finally. According to numerous Oscar predictions this will be the year of the long-awaited Anointing of Leonardo DiCaprio.

DiCaprio’s grunting, snuffling, gurn-a-minute work in ‘The Revenant’ has been unanimously applauded by everyone. The performance was not just Oscar worthy but probably one of the best of DiCaprio’s life.

Two years ago DiCaprio lost to Matthew McConaughey in Dallas Buyers Club. It seems the Academy members love transformative and pioneering roles.

‘The Revenant’ delivers on all these fronts and some more. DiCaprio ate raw bison liver and was washed down a semi-frozen river for an Oscar. Many are rooting for the fifth time nominee with passion as no one wants DiCaprio to harm his health while trying to win the Oscar.

Earlier in the award season DiCaprio took home the Bafta, the Golden Globe and the Screen Actors’ Guild prize. Now all DiCaprio needs to complete his set of awards is the Academy Award for the Best Actor.

The Revenant’s award season campaign has been flawless so it may not come as a surprise when the envelope-opening is a formality.

Other contenders for the Best Actor nominees include Michael Fassbender, Eddie Redmayne, Matt Damon and Bryan Cranston. Fassbender has been nominated for his portrayal of the mildly sociopathic tech guru Steve Jobs.

Meanwhile Redmayne ticks ‘pioneering character’ and ‘transformative role’ in The Danish Girl. Bryan Cranston has delivered another enchanting performance but an Oscar may be a long shot. The only nominee considered not to win for sure is Matt Damon. Damon is nominated for his movie-star-like performance in the Blockbuster The Martian.

So in short Leonardo DiCaprio is the strong nominee of the lot for the Best Actor category. If we look at Leonardo’s acting history we will see the poor chap has been long overdue for an Oscar.

DiCaprio has delivered multiple Oscar-worthy performances in the past. It started with ‘What's Eating Gilbert Grape’ when DiCaprio was nominated for the first time.

Since then DiCaprio has been nominated for ‘The Aviator’, ‘Blood Diamond’, and finally ‘Wolf of Wall Street’. The biggest question is will the long awaited finally come when DiCaprio will make his first winning speech.

DiCaprio has been a bona fide star for nearly three decades in Hollywood. If someone deserves to win it is DiCaprio. Even though there are other powerful performances in the Best Actor category, DiCaprio is the winner of choice.

Some may argue DiCaprio might just win because of the fan reaction. But the truth is ‘The Revenant’ is one Oscar worthy performance not many actors can deliver.

The 88th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 28, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
