The Oscars are just around the corner and it is time to examine the Academy Award nominees for Best Original Song. In 2016 it seems very hard to predict a winner ahead of the Oscar for Best Original Song.

The list of nominees is the most surprising and diverse seen in a number of years. The nominees include multiple nominated singers to newly nominated crooners. Although the formula of fan and critic favorite has always proven successful. So let’s round up all the potential winners.

One of the nominees for the Best original Song is ‘Earned It’ from Fifty Shades of Grey. The Music and Lyrics for ’Earned It’ have been done by The Weeknd. Ahmad Balshe, Jason Daheala Quenneville and Stephan Moccio also contributed to the song.

Similarly ‘Manta Ray’ from Racing Extinction is also nominated. The music for ‘Manta Ray’ has been composed by J. Ralph, while Antony Hegarty wrote the lyrics.

The ‘Simple Song #3’ from the film Youth is another Oscar nominee. The Music and Lyrics for the song have been composed by David Lang. The song ‘Til It Happens To You’ sung by Lady Gaga and Diane Warren have been nominated for an Oscar in 2016.

The song belongs to the film ‘The Hunting Ground’ and the Music and Lyrics have also been done by Diane Warren and Lady Gaga. The Bond song from the film ‘Spectre’ has also earned an Oscar nomination.

The song ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ has been sung by Sam Smith. Meanwhile the Music and Lyrics were done by both Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes.

The frontrunner for the Best Original Song is undeniably ‘Til It Happens To You’. Diane Warren has been nominated seven times prior to this year for an Oscar. Her first nomination was back in 1987 for a movie called Mannequin.

In 2016 Warren has had her 8th nomination for Best Original Song and she could actually win. Although Warren will have to share the nomination and the award with Lady Gaga.

Lady Gaga on the other hand is a first time nominee and is already slated to win. But it’s not about how many Oscar nominations a singer has received before or hasn’t.

The fact of the matter is that the song ‘Til It Happens To You’ is a haunting rendition of two great vocals. All in all the official song from The Hunting Ground is the song to beat in this year’s Oscar race.

The second which has made an impression at the Oscar circuit is the ‘Simple Song #3’ from the well-received film Youth. The sweeping and gorgeous song with its classical and operatic flair has sure made its mark.

The composer and nominee David Lang is a Pulitzer Prize winner but have to deal with just a nomination. Meanwhile the song to win a Golden Globe in 2016 was ‘Writing’s On The Wall’ from the James Bond flick Spectre.

The song by Sam Smith and Jimmy Napes fails to impress with originality but is still among the hopefuls.

In the end it seems the song which should and would win is the same for the first time. ‘Til It Happens to You’ is bona fide Academy Award winning material. Besides Warren deserves a break after 28 years of Oscar nominations. Not to mention the song feature Mother Monster Lady Gaga.

The 88th Oscars will be held on Sunday, February 28, at the Dolby Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center in Hollywood, and will be televised live by the ABC Television Network at 7 p.m. ET/4 p.m. PT. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 225 countries and territories worldwide.
