The actor had previously been nominated for his first Academy Award 22 years earlier.
Leonardo DiCaprio finally won an Oscar for the Best Actor category. The win came after nearly 22 years of waiting. DiCaprio has been nominated five times before for an Oscar as an actor.

But fifth time was the charm as it brought home the gold trophy for him. DiCaprio has also previously been nominated for an Oscar as a director. DiCaprio won for his role in the film ‘The Revenant’. It can be said no one has been waiting for an Oscar as fervently as DiCaprio himself.
After his acceptance speech DiCaprio also talked about his Oscar backstage at the Academy Awards. DiCaprio spoke to reporters backstage about how it felt to win finally.
According to DiCaprio, quite frankly he feels very honoured. The 41 years old actor also called the whole thing an amazing experience for him. DiCapro further stated it all feels incredibly surreal because he can’t reach out and meet everyone who rooted for him.
DiCaprio confessed he heard all about the support on the internet and from other people. But he couldn’t physically meet all his supporters. DiCaprio then commented he has always strived to do his best but he was overwhelmed with support.
Especially this year the fans and the industry folk really supported him. DiCaprio even admitted he think it is all shocking and all he can say is he is really grateful.
‘The Revenant’ also won two other Oscars and had a total of 12 nominations. ‘The Revenant’ also won Best Director for Alejandro González Iñárritu and Best Cinematography.
According to DiCaprio making ‘The Revenant’ was a true collaborative storytelling experience. DiCaprio declared he will never forget his work with Alejandro, and how can he, since DiCaprio won an Oscar for it.
