Update: The Porsche 911 R is Official.
It is claimed by AutoCar that the pictures are the first official images of the Porsche 911 R. The leaked pictures of the Porsche 911 R first appeared on a Dutch news website.
The pictures show the 911 R receives a mild body kit. The fixed rear wing of the more hard core GT3 RS is absent from the Porsche 911 R. The new Porsche 911 R comes with White paintwork and racing stripes. The paintwork gives the new Porsche 911 R a racing look.
The 911 R has been equipped with a normally aspirated 4.0-litre flat six petrol engine. The engine is capable of producing 493 horse power and 384lb ft of torque, the same as the GT3 RS.
The pictures have only shown the 911 R will be offered with a manual transmission only. So a PDK automatic, a staple of the 911, is out of the question.
According to Porsche the 911 R is designed to pay homage to the original model of the same name. The original 911 will celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2017. The new 911 R will put a focus on simple driving pleasure.
