The region was in Central California and it was a rare glimpse of Nature in the raw that they all got to view on an experiential basis.
The site was a stranded rock along the edges of the facility and the sea otter found it to be the ideal place to give birth to its young. This sea otter had taken refuge in the Great Tide Pool of the aquarium after stormy and inclement conditions in the wild forced it ashore.
It began twisting and turning in paroxysms of pregnant labor after a while and the onlookers gasped in amusement and amazement at the scene before them. Seldom has such a vision been seen live by so many visitors and a video clip of the happening was made.
The official Facebook page of the aquarium stated that it was very seldom that you got a chance to see a sea otter pup come into this world. It was in fact a precious moment that was meant to be captured on video camera.
This was done with acuity and alacrity. Most of the research staff of the aquarium had seen many things in their lives but they had never witnessed a live sea otter birth. It was a golden opportunity that so many visitors got to see on a first hand basis over the weekend.
The mama sea otter was seen grooming the baby otter after its birth. This is standard procedure among these creatures. This soothes and protects its young at such a vulnerable and delicate stage in their nascent life.
The baby sea otter will remain cosy and fluffy after the mother is finished grooming it. There is a YouTube video clip of the whole scene which is worth taking a gander.
