The 2017 Ford Escape will arrive in US showrooms by spring 2016. A De-Icer means there will no longer be wiper blades covered in chunks of ice. The De-Icer will be available on the standard Titanium models and an option on SE models.
The windshield wiper de-icer will be a great solution to one of the nagging problems of winter in US. The De-Icer is part of the Ford Escape Cold Weather Package. Other features in the package include all-weather floor mats, heated side mirrors and heated seats. “The windshield wiper de-icer is a great solution to one of the more nagging problems of winter,” said Jennifer Gauthier, Ford fixed glass engineer. “Escape drivers in the U.S. are going to wonder how they ever got along without it.”
The De-Icer in the Ford Escape will be much like the traditional rear window wiper. The base of the windshield where the wiper blades rest will be equipped with a local heating element.
The wiper will clear light snow and ice from the wiper blades. The melting will take place in under 10 minutes at minus 18 degrees Fahrenheit. Owners of Ford Escape could also activate the windshield wiper from the requisite app on the smartphones.
