Royal Caribbean's Harmony of the Seas began its first sea trial.

The Harmony of the Seas is the new world's largest cruise ship. The Royal Caribbean owned monster ship has left the STX France shipyard this morning. There are 500 crew members, STX test teams, suppliers and Royal Caribbean customer monitoring team on board for the first sea trial.

Over a three day period the Harmony of the Seas is tested on how it performs out on the sea. There will be another sea trial at the end of next month. Royal Caribbean will take delivery of the Harmony of the Seas on May 12.

The specifications of the Harmony of the Seas are staggering. The giant cruise ship has a capacity of 6.296 passengers and 2.384 crew members. The Oasis-class cruise ship has a length of 1,187 feet and a 227,000 gross tons.

One of the more crazy features of the Harmony oft the Seas is the 10 story slide known as the "Ultimate Abyss." The Ultimate Abyss is more than 150 feet above sea level and offers side-by-side slides that send guests down 10 decks at a rate of 9 miles per hour.
