The Electric GT World Series is on its way to become the first ever zero-emissions GT championship.

The Tesla Model S has always been praised for its blast of instant electric torque. The upcoming Electric GT World Series championship will finally give us a chance to see the car in action.

The Electric GT World Series wants to become the first zero-emissions GT championship in the world. The championship aims to use all electric road cars modified for racing.

According to GT, they have chosen the Tesla Model S P85+ as the series’ technical base. When the choice to use Model S was announced many wondered why the Tesla P90DL was not used instead.

The Electric GT Holdings Technical Director Agustin Payá clarified the choice. According to Payá, the Tesla Model S is a rear-wheel-drive car. So Model S will be less complex to service and fix in a pinch.

The Electrci GT championship will be inaugurated with a 10-car grid, according to JaloPink. The grid will be comprised entirely of the Model S. To prepare the Model S for racing it will be stripped down and given better cooling, suspension and brakes.

Payá further stated even though the Model S is a luxurious super tourer its form is made for racing. The weight distribution and astonishing low center of gravity is perfect for racing.

The Model S allows unbelievable cornering speed with massive torque making it a great race car. The modified Tesla Model S is already being tested by GT in Spain at the Catalunya and Jarama circuits.
