The first carrier in the United States announces the availability of the LG G5.
LG made a big splash at the MWC 2016 with the modular LG G5 smartphone. the LG G5 features a new modular design with a metal uni-body featuring a Slide-out Battery and a Modular Type design. The LG G5 got announced with LG Friends, a collection of companion devices, the G5 can be transformed into a digital camera, Hi-Fi player and more.
Now the first American carrier announced the LG G5.
U.S. Cellular will begin the pre-sale for the LG G5 on March 28, and it will be offered for $0 down. It will be available in store and online on April 1, and LG Friends, a suite of companion devices for the LG G5, will follow in mid-April.
Anyone who purchases the LG G5 from U.S. Cellular before April 17 will receive a free extra battery and battery-charging cradle (for a limited time only and while supplies last).
“Since Mobile World Congress, we have been anxiously awaiting the arrival of the LG G5 because we can’t wait for our customers to take advantage of LG’s most innovative device on our high-quality, national network,” said Joe Settimi, vice president of marketing for U.S. Cellular. “The LG Friends devices along with the LG G5 create a totally new smartphone experience that can enhance and simplify our customers’ lives.”
Later in April, U.S. Cellular will offer a selection of LG Friends including the LG Cam Plus, LG 360 Cam and the LG 360 VR along with the LG G5. The LG G5 introduces a modular design which allows for these companion devices to plug into (or be connected to) and transform the LG G5 into a DSLR style camera (LG CAM Plus), a remote control for capturing photos and video from a 360 point of view (LG 360 CAM) or a way to enjoy the interactive and immersive experience of 360-degree virtual reality (LG 360 VR).
In addition, the LG G5’s sleek metal body features a slide out removable battery which is easily swapped for a fully-charged one, and its Always On display allows users to see the time, date and important notifications anytime without waking the phone.
With U.S. Cellular’s $0 down installment pricing, qualified customers make 24 monthly payments of $26.50 for the LG G5 that are conveniently added to their bill. Customers can upgrade this device in as little as 18 months if they trade it in for any new device with installment pricing. With a two year agreement, the LG G5 will be available for $199.99. In addition, if a current customer refers a friend to U.S. Cellular, and the friend chooses to activate a smartphone on a Shared Connect plan, they both will receive $50.
