There Will Be No IPhone SE 2

There will be no iPhone SE 2

Apple unveiled the iPhone SE on Monday. SE indeed stands for Special Edition. We don't expect Apple to release an iPhone SE 2.

The iPhone SE looks identical to the iPhone 5. There is no difference besides the colors. This has been received by Apple fans with mixed feelings. The iPhone 5 design is iconic, but re-releasing it without any changes is also disappointing.

The iPhone 5 design is 3 years old. It actually takes balls to make the decision to just offer it up again as new device. The iPhone SE innovation is invisible. It is all in the inside. Apple packed the iPhone SE with the technology found in the iPhone 6S at the much lower price of $399.

In my opinion Apple should have created an updated design for the iPhone SE. It could have been based on the iPhone 5, but with something new. Apple can only do this one time, if at all successful. There will be no iPhone SE 2. It does not make sense in the long run to have an iPhone in the line-up that looks different.

That does not mean that there should be no 4-inch iPhone. It makes sense to have an entry level iPhone with a smaller screen, but the design should be in line with all current iPhones.

So in a year from now I predict we will see an iPhone 7 mini that looks like the iPhone 7 and not an iPhone SE 2.

Watch Jimmy Kimmel tricking people comparing two iPhone 5S thinking one is the iPhone SE.

The iPhone SE goes up for pre-order on March 24 and will start shipping on March 31. The iPhone SE starts at $399, which is lower than expected.

The iPhone SE offers state-of-the-art performance with the same 64-bit A9 chip offered in iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus for blazing fast speeds, longer battery life, faster wireless, a 12-megapixel iSight camera featuring Live Photos and 4K video, and Touch ID with Apple Pay. iPhone SE also includes more LTE bands for better worldwide roaming and supports Voice over LTE and Wi-Fi calling for high-quality wideband calls.
