The reservation for the Model 3 begins at the same time world-wide. A Model 3 reservation requires a $1,000 deposit. There are two ways to make a reservation.
The first is to visit your local Tesla store when it opens on March 31st. The second is to make a reservation online at Tesla.com when the live broadcast of the Model 3 unveil starts at 8:30pm PT. Tesla says that the first option will give you a better spot in the pre-order queue. If you want to be one of the first to own a Model 3, you actually need to camp out in front of a Tesla Store, like its an iPhone launch.
You can get an even better position in the Model 3 pre-order queue if you are a current Tesla customer. To make the Model 3 pre-order as fair as possible, there will be a different queue for each region.
To be one of the first customers to get a Model 3 delivered you need to move to the West coast by 2017. Tesla announced to begin deliveries in North America starting on the West Coast, moving east. As production ramps up, Tesla will begin deliveries in Europe, APAC and right-hand drive markets.
The Tesla Model 3 goes into production in 2017. It is going to be a very long wait from pre-ordering a Model 3 next week to actually driving one.
