Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice sets numerous records including the biggest March opening weekend ever, biggest Easter opening and largest Warner Bros. domestic release ever.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice shattered a number of records since its release last week.

The movie, featuring Ben Affleck and Henry Cavill in the lead roles, debuted with a whooping $170 million in North America and went on to earn $254 million overseas, racking up a total of 424.1 million at global box office.

The opening weekend of Batman V Superman ranks as the biggest March opening weekend ever, dethroning 2012 “Hunger Games”, largest Easter opening, beating 2015 “Furious” and the largest Warner Bros domestic release ever, beating 2011 final Harry Potter movie. The movie also set the record for sixth biggest domestic opening weekend of all time.

Batman V Superman picks up where 2013 Superman original story “Man of Steel” left off. The destructive battle in Metropolis has made Superman a controversial figure and a potential threat to humanity which leads to an encounter with crime fighting billionaire Bruce Wayne (Batman).

The role of Batman is played by Ben Affleck for the first time while Henry Cavill is portraying Superman. The movie is directed by Zack Snyder who also helmed the first installment of the series “Men of Steel”. Other cast includes Amy Adams, Jesse Eisenberg, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane.

Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice is the first of 10 superhero movies planned by Warner Bros. through 2020. And this has certainly set the tone for upcoming movie “Suicide Squad” followed by “Wonder Woman”, “Justice League”, “Aquaman” and more.
