Vernee Thor Smartphone Sells for $99.99 for Uber Users

Chinese smartphone startup is taking now orders for the Vernee Thor at a discount for Uber users.

Vernee is offering now the Vernee Thor mid-range Android smartphone for $99.99. The Vernee Thor runs on a 8-core MediaTek MT6753 1.3GHz CPU, 3GB RAM and 16GB storage. At under $100, the Vernee Thor is a steal. To get the Thor for $99.99 you have to be a registered Uber user. Vernee has released a list of rules to receive a discount coupon to purchase the Thor at the $99.99 price.

The regular price of the Thor is $119.99. Initially the company said the price is $129.99, but several retailers are offering the Android phone now for $119.99 including Gearbest. The description on how to get the discount are a bit confusing. You have to proof that you have an Uber account by posting it on a Vernee forum page. You also need to post on social media about what you like about the Thor.

So far only 20 people have left a comment on the forum page. The $99.99 Thor deal expires on April 9.

The Vernee Thor features a 5-inch screen with 1280x720px resolution, Corning Gorilla Glass 3, fingerprint sensor, LTE (FDD-LTE 800/1800/2100/2600 MHz), Dual-SIM, 13MP camera, 5MP front camera and 2,800mAh battery. The 7.9mm thin Thor supports 5V 2A quick charge and comes with Android 6.0 (Marshmallow). The storage can be expanded to 128GB.

The backside of the Thor has a smooth rubber surface and the screen has an anti-fingerprint coating. Buyers can choose between the color options grey and black.

The Thor is the first smartphone that ships from Vernee. The extreme $399.99 Vernee Apollo with the 10-core MediaTek Helio X20, 6GB RAM and 128GB storage is supposed to be released next. At this point we have not seen a review or test of the Vernee Thor. Based on the specifications, the Thor is great deal, especially if you manage to get the discount code.

Vernee announced an unspecified Uber partnership when the company introduced the Thor last month. I am not convinced yet that Uber actually knows about this "partnership."
