Probes are being manufactured that are to search for alien life forms that lie nearby our planet earth.
There is a small AI spacecraft that Stephen Hawking alongside his friends in the scientific community plan to send into interstellar space. The goal is the hunt for alien life forms in the solar system and beyond its confines.

Hawking, billionaire Yuri Milner and many science personnel have put two and two together to announce the beginning of Breakthrough Starshot. This is a $100 million project that is meant to create the high technology that is needed to go into deep space.
Small, thumb-sized spacecrafts that are set up with sails and are termed “nanocrafts” can be employed in this game of space exploration for the sake of finding extraterrestrial life.
These nanocrafts will travel at 20% the speed of light which is still a lot faster than most of the spacecraft found today. Yuri Milner will finance the project, according to Space.com.
Ground-based laser lights will play a central role in these nanocrafts. It is the universal hope of humanity that such miniprobes will explore Alpha Centauri via the power of flotillas.
Other star systems in the regional space near the earth will also be explored thoroughly by these miniprobes. The planets will be scoured for any signs of life on them.
It seems that as we progress on our journey as a species, we feel we are not alone. There may be others of our kind in the vast depths of space.
First though these nanocrafts will be inquiring matters closer to the home turf. The environment within our own solar system will be given first priority as far as the exploratory drive is concerned.
Especially, the moon of Saturn titled Enceladus will be a probable target for these nanocrafts since it holds an ocean of liquid ice. Spouts of water emerge time after time from the southern polar regions of Enceladus.
The ocean that lies stored within an icy exterior comes out of its shell intermittently. Nanocrafts may float through these plumes of water and examine the chemical contents.
Also Europa, the moon of Jupiter may hold signs of life on its surface. It could even be that these frozen oceans of water contain microscopic fish in them.

You never know unless the matter is explored in depth. The nanocrafts will be very cheap to manufacture. However, they will reveal a lot about what exists out there. So the payoff will be huge.
