Inside IoT: Since Windows 10 IoT Core Insider Build 14295 a remote desktop client is available.
My desk is a mess since I started my hands-on journey into the IoT world with Windows 10 IoT Core and Raspberry Pi 3. I am Mac guy since several years and thought to have left the Windows world for good. Now I am back with a Windows 10 laptop as there is no other way to develop for Windows 10 IoT.

Besides the laptop joining my 27-inch iMac, I also have a 20-inch monitor the Raspberry Pi 3 is connected to. The good news is that I can pack away again the display for the Raspberry as Microsoft offers a Remote Desktop client for Windows 10 IoT since the insider build 14295.
In case you keep track the current build of Windows 10 IoT core is 14322. This version just got installed automatically on my Raspberry. There are no release notes and the build also does not solve the Bluetooth pairing issue.
Before the release of the Windows IoT Remote Client, the only way to connect to the Raspberry Pi was via SSH. You still will need SSH going forward as Windows 10 IoT has no command line window. The Windows IoT Remote Client works as expected. You can use the mouse to access everything present on the desktop including your apps.
The Windows 10 IoT Remote Client is available in the Windows Store for free here. You have to enable the Windows IoT Remote Server on the Raspberry before you can use the remote desktop client.
For the initial network setup of the Raspberry you still need a monitor. The remote desktop can discover the Windows IoT device, but only if it is connected to the local network.
I have my Raspberry Pi 3 in the network via the official Raspberry Wi-Fi USB dongle. The Wi-Fi USB stick is necessary as the current builds of the Windows 10 IoT builds do not support the onboard Wi-Fi and Bluetooth components fo the Raspberry Pi 3 board.
