Virtual Reality will be one of the hottest topics at the E3 2016. Microsoft has nothing yet for Xbox gamers.
The E3 2016 is kicking off on June 14, with E3 2016 press-conferences beginning as early as June 12. Today Nintendo announced tha the Nintendo NX will be released in March of 2017 and that the new 2017 Zelda game will be the focus at E3 2016. This means Nintendo is not a competitor for Sony and Microsoft in the 2016 Holiday shopping season.

The Holiday console war will just be between Xbox One and PlayStation 4. Sony has a huge advantage going into the fight for marketshare this round with the Sony PlayStation VR. The $399 Sony VR headset is on pre-order now and will ship in October in time for the Holiday shopping season.
Microsoft has no virtual reality option for Xbox One gamers. Nothing. The advanced Hololens is only available for developers and is at least a year out from becoming available for consumers.
If Microsoft has anything up its sleeve for making the Xbox One a virtual reality gaming machine, then they will announce it at E3 2016.
The last Holiday season was about mobile VR including the Samsung Gear VR. This year its about desktop VR with the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive and console VR. The only company offering console VR is Sony so far. The big advantage of the Sony Virtual Reality solution is cost of ownership. The Rift and Vive require a $1,000 Windows 10 PC to run. The Sony PlayStation VR only needs a $349 PS4, which will likely see a $50 price-cut in time for the Holiday Shopping season. Sony PS4 Black Friday 2016 deals will let consumers save even more.
This means consumers can get a VR solution for under $800. If they already own a PS4, they cost is $499 for the headset, camera and PlayStation Move controllers.
