Gale and Haymitch provided the female hero support, strength and advice. However, the last Hunger Games movie was released last year and we all thought it might be a while before we saw any of the stars together again.
Seems like director, Kieran Darcy-Smith had a different idea in mind when he started on Matt Cook’s scripted The Duel and thought that Liam and Woody would be perfect as the lead roles of the movie.
Presented by Lionsgate Premiere, we got to see the first trailer for the movie. With a Western touch to it, the movie features the story of Liam Hemsworth as a Park Ranger David Kingston, who is being briefed by the Governor about Abraham Brant who is also called the Preacher.
The Governor tells him that there have been bodies turning up in the river near Brant’s area of influence and he wants David to go investigate what’s happening in the town before they run out of time.
We see people pulling bodies out of the water and Liam’s intense look magnifies the importance of finding the killer. We then see David accompanied by his wife and going to Brant’s area. When asked who he is, David tells the patrolman that he is travelling with his wife and saw smoke in the area so he thought that they could rest and feed the horses.
The patrolman played by Emory Cohen tells them that they need to see the preacher. The Preacher, played by Woody Harrelson is a bald intense looking man and he asks David till when he will be staying.
Slowly as they observe, they find out that the praying rituals are odd and people believe that Brant has been touched by God and performs miracles. We see blood on the ground and other things.
He also remembers that Brant is the same man who murdered his father when he was a child and threw his father in the river. He calls it a strange coincidence, and David’s wife played by Alice Braga tells him that he will kill Brant.
A woman tells him that it is not a safe place and she tried to leave but she couldn’t. Just then, we see Brant approaching David’s wife and tell her that she is not feeling well and she has the fever. She starts to fall ill and Emory tells David that he has no idea what he has walked into.
We then get a voice over from David as we see a montage of different scenes saying that he is a Texas Ranger who had been sent by the Governor to find out what was going on there.
He had been chasing Brant his entire life. With some pretty striking scenes, the trailer ends with Harrelson’s Brant saying that he knew David would come followed by David holding a gun and saying, I bet you didn’t foresee this.
Entertainment Weekly posted the following poster and trailer of the movie.
It is going to be an interesting showdown as the movie releases theaters and on June 24.
