Met Gala is a fundraising event which is hosted and conducted every year by Vogue’s editor-in-chief Anna Wintour to raise money for the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute in New York City.
Wintour has been hosting the event since 1995. Every year, she selects an honorary ‘chair’ who is responsible for co-hosting and arranging the event. This year, Anna invited the diva herself, the very fashionable Taylor Swift to fill that chair. Nicolas Ghesquière and Jony Ive will be accompanying the ladies with the show’s responsibility.
So before we go into ceremonial details for this year, let us review what Met Gala really is. According to stylist Manny who has worked with Jourdan Dunn on her two previous Met Gala looks explained that the show is like a showcase of the best in the fashion industry.
The celebs who are making any donations to the cause do not garner an invitation. The invitations are given out by Anna Wintour and it is hard to refuse her if you have been invited.
Other people who are trying to attend the event should know that each ticket for the event costs about $250,000. The celebrities are designated with designers who make a custom designed gown according to the theme of the Gala every year.
Each and every piece that any celebrity is wearing has to be approved by Anna Wintour herself. Any dress that is not pertaining to the theme and the dress code remains unapproved and the celeb has to collaborate with their designer to make a design that is suitable for them to wear at the Gala.
According to Manny, it is a learning process and everyone has to keep the landscape for the Gala in mind. The red carpet to the Gala consists of multitude of stairs that the celebs have to keep climbing.
The celeb and their designer has to make sure that the dress is comfortable enough to make that journey from the red carpet to the gala comfortable. Every year, the jewelry stores and accessory stores crank up their merchandise to meet with the requirement of the Gala demands. The hair stylists and make-up artists are also hired close to the event.
For stars who have their own stylists travel with their pack to New York. One of the other kind of help that is required by female celebs are the handlers. The handler is a person that is designated to help the star keep their dress proper at all times.
They can only be approved by Anna Wintour only if she thinks that you need one and even then, the handler is not with you all the time. Last year, Kim Kardashian had a handler for her dress’s feather terrain.
