Chinese smartphone startup Vernee announced today to use the faster X25 10-core CPU in their upcoming flagship smartphone.

Vernee raised attention with the announcement of the $399.99 Vernee Apollo high powered Android Smartphone a couple months ago. In the meantime the company launched a mid-range smartphone named Thur. The Vernee flagship Apollo features a 5.5 inch 2k high definition display, 6GB RAM, 128GB storage and 21.0MP Sony IMX230 rear camera.

Initially Vernee said that the Apollo will run on the MediaTek Helio X20 CPU. Today Vernee said that they will switch to the higher clocked Helio X25, making it one of the first to use the new MediaTek CPU. Meizu is supposed to also adopt the X25.

The MediaTek Helio X25 features 2x Cortex-A72 @ 2.5GHz, 4x Cortex-A53 @ 2.0GHz and 4x Cortex-A53 @ 1.4GHz cores. The 2 Cortex-A72 cores are clocked 200Hz faster than on the X20. Another difference is the GPU. The X25 uses the ARM Mali at 850Mhz. The X20 has the ARM Mali 780Mhz.

The metal unibody Vernee Apollo is now scheduled to go on sale in July. Its lower configured brother the Apollo Lite is coming in June according to the latest announcements.
