  • World's Most Polluted City isn’t Beijing or Delhi But Zabol in Iran
  • World’s Poorest Cities are More Polluted Than Richer

Apparently there are other far worse polluted cities besides those in China and India.

What is the pollution center of the world? It’s not Beijing and nor is it Delhi. Both of these examples may be the classic cases of runaway pollution but they have been surpassed by other smog and dust centers around the world.

The worst offender may be in Iran. Not all the city data is collected in a fair and square manner. The measurements are often inaccurate depending upon the rules of thumb that are used by the researchers.

The size of the air’s pollutants are especially important in the studies by climate scientists. The particulate matter offers a challenge to human health since it clogs up lungs and gets into the bloodstream.

The larger the particles, the more harmful they happen to be. According to WHO’s statistics, the Iranian city of Zabol has the greatest levels of pollution in the entire world.

It has 100,000 inhabitants and lies on the Iran-Afghanistan border to the East. It is famous for its 120 day wind. This is a tedious dust storm which rages throughout the hot and dry summer months.

Following Zabol are Gwalior and Allahabad which are both located in India. The next one in line is the capital of Saudi Arabia, Riyadh. Then there is Jubail which is another Saudi Arabian city.

Patna and Raipur clock in at the sixth and seventh positions. Bamenda in Cameroon is at number eighth. Finally, two more cities of China are at the ninth and tenth positions.

As for Delhi and Beijing, they are at the 11th and 57th position in the ranking. Thus they are not even in the top ten pollution centers of the globe.

Then there are other cities which also show signs of smog and dust not to mention other harmful pollutants. These include cities of Nigeria, Pakistan, Afghanistan and India.

Whatever the case may be, Zabol remains at the top. This renewed lower ranking of Delhi has led to celebrations among the Indians. Overall, the global village is becoming a more polluted place that is inimical to human health.

If we do not take precautions, conditions will deteriorate to the point where the overall pollution will cause massive extinctions of plants and animals not to mention of humanity at large. This is a SNAFU we must prevent at all costs.
