  • Magna Steyr is said to start production of BMW Z5 and Toyota Supra Reborn in 2018 in Graz, Austria

It so happens that the BMW and the Toyota Company are to cooperate to produce the Toyota Supra. This will take place under the tutelage of Magna Steyr.

2018 will be the year in the future when BMW and Toyota will join hands to create the Toyota Supra. Magna Steyr will play a crucial role in the making of a collection of vehicles. This is the same company that manufactured the Mercedes G-Wagen.

The partnership between BMW and Toyota was shouted from the rooftops years ago. Most people have forgotten about the deal by now. Yet the companies have not forgone the trust implicit in the joint venture.

It was supposed to be a twin-door, rear-drive sports car. The car will be built in Austria and the company that will be playing a major role in the mix will be Magna Steyr, according to the Kleine Zeitung newspaper (via AutomotiveNews).

Among the projects in the pipeline are the BMW Z5 and the Toyota Supra although the latter is on a tentative basis. The goal is the production of 60,000 vehicles on an annual basis. Magna Steyr is not a non-entity among companies. It is after all the creator of the Mercedes G-Wagen. This was not a small task to accomplish. It required guts.

Magna Steyr also specialized in the production of BMW, Mercedes-Benz and Peugeot vehicles although on a small-scale basis. The firm will be starting work on a Jaguar Land Rover by the time 2017 rolls in.

BMW meanwhile has a reputation for manufacturing revolutionary roadsters that leave fire behind on the tracks as they burn rubber (metaphorically speaking).

The company will fill its slot which was meant for it to occupy all on its own. It will be doing what it has always done best. That is the making of solid cars that are functional and a pleasure to drive on the highway.

Whether the Toyota Supra will come into existence or not will depend on these big companies and their huge agendas. Magna Steyr is a shadow company of sorts. It is not solely responsible for manufacturing cars.

There are ten thousand other things it deals in. If flying rumors are anything to go by, there is a kernel of truth in the overall hype of a new car in the making.  The market popularity of two-seat roadsters is high. So this venture may just get off the ground since necessity is the mother of invention.
