The Paris Games Week 2016 kicks off on October 27. The timing makes the video game show the perfect event to unveil the more powerful PS4 Neo.
The video game community has basically accepted that Sony will unveil this year a new Sony PlayStation 4 console that is more powerful than the current model. The PS4 Neo (internal codename) is supposed go on sale along with the PlayStation VR headset end of October.

An upgraded PS4 would be able to better compete with the Windows PC based Oculus and HTC Vive virtual reality systems. The Sony PS4 Neo is rumored to adopt the 14nm AMD Polaris GPU, which would be running on 911MHz instead of 800MHz the GPU in the PS4 is running.
Last week a rumor surfaced that Sony would debut the PS4 Neo at the Tokyo Game Show 2016 in September. Now the video game community is buzzing with a rumor that Sony rather chooses the Paris Game Week 2016 kicking off on October 27. The rumor stems from the Super Deformed Gamescast, that had video game insider shinobi602 as guest.
When the topic of the podcast turned to new hardware announcements at the E3 2016 (1:14m), shinobi602 said that he was told that the plan was to announce the Sony PS4 Neo at the Paris Games Week 2016.
It makes sense for Sony to keep the time between the announcement and release of the Neo as short as possible. Sony would lose sales of the current PS4 console if it is clear that the PS4 Neo is coming at a certain point in time.
The Paris Games Week kicks off on October 27 and the release of the PS4 Neo would be on the same day or latest October 31, which is the release date some retailers are listing for the Sony PlayStation VR.
The Sony PS4 Neo, if indeed real, is a tricky release for Sony. Millions of current Sony PS4 owners would be stuck with a lower performing PS4 just three years after the introduction of the PlayStation 4. Sony needs to carefully market the launch of the PS4 Neo to not cause a giant shit storm.
The Sony PS4 Neo has a huge strategic potential for Sony. The console could establish Sony as the leading virtual reality platform, pushing the PC based Oculus Rift and HTC Vive to the side lines. The simplicity and the lower cost of ownership of the Sony PS4 and PlayStation VR system are big advantages. The current PS4's graphics system is though not a match for NVIDIA or AMD based Windows 10 rigs recommended for the Rift and Vive.
shinobi602 has a great track record of making correct predictions. Just recently he predicted the space combat in the new Call of Duty game correctly months before the unveiling.
