Mental illness is a real problem in today's world, and anything that can take away from the stigma of it is very important. Savonix is a company that claims to take the "analog processes" of cognitive assessment into a more futuristic and digital age. For six weeks, the firm is launching an iOS and Android app that will let anyone examine their own mental abilities.

When using the app, you have to undergo a series of tests that will test the limits of your ability - everything from emotional control to smart thinking. This type of test is unique because, at least up until now, they have only been available under the guidance of a psychologist - and they were on paper!
There is an open beta, for now, to work out all of the kinks - but soon the app will only be available to users who license it through "healthcare organizations."
The app itself is somewhat like Brain Age, according to someone who took the test at Engadget. There are 12 cognition tests that range from remembering a list of words to cause and effect to drawing a picture from memory. There are some typical, but more advanced, tests as well, like the Iowa Gambling test where you have to guess someone's emotions from a still image of their face at a particular time.
The test is supposedly simple and easy to complete without too much stress. The instructions are clear and concise, though of course since the app is in beta there may be problems here and there. It is a good tool if you are looking for a way to check up on yourself or someone that you love. However, it doesn't seem to be a replacement for an actual doctor.
