The Great White Shark named Katharine may actually be expecting. It is on its way to Florida and may give birth to many a shark pup.
Katharine, the Great White Shark, is in a state of being pregnant. It will probably give birth to anywhere from four to 14 pups. Each one of these small sharks would be 4.5 feet in length.
It is probably returning to Florida and a spokesperson for OCEARCH, the shark-tracking group, said that these shark pups come out into the open and are on their own from there onwards.
Three years ago, a satellite transmitter was affixed to Katharine’s backside. This was when it was brought into captivity off Cape Cod. Yesterday, it was spotted via radar near the Florida-Georgia border. Then at a certain time, she came within reach of Daytona Beach.
All along her peregrinations since the past two years, Katharine did not seem to be big in any way. Yet the last time she did not make a detour for Cape Cod, it was intuited by the researchers that she might be pregnant. She is giving off signals regarding the migratory patterns which are so common in her species.
It seems Katharine has reached maturity as a Great White Shark. Way back in 2014, Katharine sped off into the Gulf of Mexico, where she was the first Great White to enter such a marine region.
In 2015, she did not return which led to OCEARCH keeping tabs on her via a radar. Katharine seems to have traveled a total of 28,814 miles. Tracking Katharine has been a labor of love for the marine biologists.
They have been at it since the past three years or so. The pups of sharks are often very vulnerable so care will be taken of Katharine’s offspring once they are born.
To think that there was a time when Katharine was so immature. Yet when we see her today, she is not only at the height of her maturity as a female shark but also possibly pregnant.
The transition from a juvenile state to an adult status has been covered by Katharine through thick and thin. The seas and oceans are not exactly a bed of roses since poachers and other hazards lie in ambush and may harm even such a ferocious shark as a Great White anytime.

While the whereabouts of Katharine are not exactly known right now, the researchers are busy tracking her in an effort to ease her pregnancy to its final destination of conception.
