Brie Larson has become one of the top contenders to play the role of Captain Marvel in the upcoming movie about the superhero.

Hayley Atwell played the role of Peggy Carter for two seasons before signing off. Gamora in the Guardians of the Galaxy held her own in the male cast ensemble. Still Marvel has not yet any movie in which a superhero is a woman.
Not for long thought. In this year’s CinemaCon, Marvel’s CEO Kevin Fiege announced the future plans for the studio. That included all the movies that are coming up to year 2020.
In addition, more projects in the Phase IV of the Marvel Studios were also announced. One of the most anticipated movie in that phase is Captain Marvel. Introduced initially as an Avenger.
Captain Marvel got her own comic book and become a critically acclaimed hit. Marvel is the hero name of Carol Danvers. She is an Air Force pilot whose DNA is fused with that of an alien during an accident. The resulting alteration imbues her with the super powers of strength, energy projection and flight.
The project has not been finalized yet. Studio is working towards making confirmations about production and the people involved in the movie. The most important part is to cast for Captain Marvel’s character.
So far, Marvel has done a good job with casting choices. Some of the potential actresses for the role included Emily Blunt and Charlize Theron.
According to the latest news by EW, this year’s Oscar winner Brie Larson has become the front runner for the role. Larson almost every award this year for her performance in Room.
She is balancing herself between commercial blockbusters and prestige films. Larson herself is reportedly interested in the role. The studio’s representatives and Brie’s agents are talking about casting possibilities.

Marvel is making an effort for making it an all-female movie. The studios has been on the hunt for a female filmmaker. Names like Niki Caro and Jennifer Kent are surfacing as contenders for direction, according to sources. The script has been written by Nicole Perlman, and Meg LeFauve.
