Elon Musk put out some new Mars Mission dates.
Elon Musk did it again. Yesterday at the Recodes Code Conference 2016 Elon Musk put out some dates for the SpaceX Mars missions. In 2018 SpaceX will launch a rocket to Mars. He continues that if everything goes as planed the first people arrive on Mars in 2025.

Elon Musk lives on a super hero movie time line. 2018 is just 2 years away. Right now SpaceX is able to shot satellites into orbit. That works pretty well. Flying to Mars is though another challenge. Is SpaceX already that far? Maybe. That people will arrive on Mars in 2025 is even more outlandish according to Mars mission critics.
Elon Musk is not alone in his Mars plans. NASA's big new adventure is Mars and SpaceX is one of the potential Space Uber to get astronauts there.
Missions to Mars can best launch every 26 months, when the when the transit between Earth and Mars is the most efficient. Elon Musk has to pace himself to that rhythm.
To the question why Elon Musk has not been to space yet, the real world Iron Man plans to go into orbit in about 4 to 5 years.
