A report says that Black Americans are more likely to die of strokes in their middle age years than Caucasians.

Black Americans who are in the middle age period of life are more likely to die of strokes than their fairer counterparts. This is not due to any racism on the part of the medical establishment but due to a higher chance of contracting a deadly stroke attack.

There have been very few such studies in the past. Blacks in the Southern States are more likely to give up the ghost due to a stroke during the time of middle age spread.

The study involved 30,000 individuals from all walks of life in the US of A. It was termed REGARDS which is an acronym for Reasons for Geographic and Racial Differences in Stroke.

The time period of the study was between the years 2003 and 2007. The questionnaires were conducted via mail and telephone services. Also residential visits to collect biological samples were conducted.

Height, BMI and hypertension symptoms were also noted down. Those Black Americans who were 45 years old were four times more likely to die of a stroke than their Caucasian neighbors. Nevertheless, at the age of 85, the rates of contracting stroke became the same for both racial strains.

The legitimate question to ask is why is the risk in middle age so high for Black Americans. That is due to the fact that strokes occur at younger ages in Black Americans.

The research was published in the American Heart Association's Journal Stroke.

This difference between the two races is of substantial significance to be noteworthy among the medical establishment and the scientific community. There were 22,384 more Black Americans who contracted strokes than Caucasians.

Each person who had a stroke incurred a cost that was equal to $104,000. Blacks bore the brunt of the burden. Their trips to hospitals and fallout from deaths cost $2.3 billion on an annual basis.

There were lifestyle factors at work in the stroke question. Black Americans were exposed to certain risks and they were also not caring for themselves more.

Prevention efforts would really boost the chances of avoiding stroke among Black Americans. Diabetes and hypertension are two of the chief causes of stroke among Blacks.

They need to be brought under control. Management of these ailments could revolutionize the lives of African Americans beyond recognition. Also a Mediterranean diet high in fruits and vegetables and olive oil is ideal for stroke prevention.
