It is being said that eating a few walnuts on a daily basis may lead to a healthy colon in consumers. These nuts are apparently a boon for optimal colonic healing.

By munching on walnuts daily, many people may be warding off any future chances of contracting colon cancer. The study was published in the journal Cancer Prevention Research.

A team of researchers from UConn Health and The Jackson Laboratory for Genomic Medicine experimented on mice in the lab. They found that those rodents that ate from 7% to 10.5% of their daily calories in the form of walnuts tended to have little chances of falling prey to colon cancer.

This trend was most visible in male mice. They had 2.3% fewer tumors when they ate walnuts than the control group. That means an average human being ought to eat an ounce of walnuts a day.

That would have a salubrious effect on his or her health status. Walnut consumption led to colonic health…that much was certain. Several other cancers were also warded off thanks to walnut consumption.

Walnuts are also an excellent probiotic and keep healthy bacteria in the colon at an optimal level. Any tumors that form in the colon tend to be dissipated thanks to walnut consumption.

The nutritional profile of walnuts shows that they are packed with nutrients that are good for the colon. The PUFAs in them are greater than in any other nut.

Also omega-3 and omega-6 fatty acids are present in the structures of walnuts. Besides these, walnuts contain high levels of vitamin E which is anti-carcinogenic in nature.

Yet it is not just the analysis of chemicals in walnuts that counts in the end. As a whole food, walnuts are a wonder food that suppresses colon cancer which is one of the deadliest cancers on the face of the planet.

Walnuts are also a surefire cure for diabetes, cardiac disease and neurological symptoms. They play an important role in the diet and lifestyle of the healthiest individuals on earth.

The lab experiment involving the mice had the rodents divided into two groups. The one on a standard western diet was fed walnuts. It showed significant reduction in tumors in the colon.

The fecal samples from the mice were examined as well. The anti-carcinogenic properties had everything to do with healthy gut bacteria and the anti-inflammatory effects of the walnuts. Since the study was done on mice, further experimentation will need to be carried out in order to extrapolate the results in humans.
