The latest evidence is in on the matter. A Mediterranean diet that is high in good fats such as EVOO and nuts is ideal for fat loss.

Fat in diet has been demonized enough. You don’t need to be scared witless of the good fats that exist in your diet. They may even help you lose weight in the long run.

The extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) and fatty fish such as salmon as well as nuts and seeds in the Mediterranean diet are ideal for shedding the pounds.

It seems that fat is not the monster and obesity-causing agent it was thought to be in the 90s. Gone are the days when a bland diet of low-fat food was the “in” thing.

However, that does not mean you can chomp your way through all the pizza slices and helpings of dessert you want. No, sir. Yet you may eat an egg in the form of an omelet if it is cooked in olive oil instead of butter.

Also the bacon rashers and toasted white bread have to go. Natural produce along with good fats is the best solution to your weight problems.

The study, published on Monday in the new edition of Lancet Diabetes & Endocrinology, involved 7,447 people. They dined on three types of eating regimens for half a decade.

The results show that a Mediterranean type diet high in fat is better than a low fat version. This seems to be true even if you are a senior citizen, have Type 2 Diabetes and are obese.

The Mediterranean diet is high in vegetables and legumes such as lentils, chickbeas and beans. Also fruit, nuts and seeds not to mention whole grains count among the central features of this diet.

All this is cooked in olive oil. For those who are ravenous meat-eaters, poultry, fish and lean cuts of meat are best. All red meat, processed junk food and sugar are strictly off limits in this eating regimen.

Almost 90% of the individuals in this study were obese or overweight when they began the participation process, according to CNN. Most of them also had Type 2 Diabetes, were smokers and had hypertension and high cholesterol levels.

One group had EVOO, another had nuts and seeds while a third had no fat in their diets. The group that consumed the EVOO lost the most weight while the group that had little to no fat lost the least weight.

Thus olive oil, fatty fish and nuts and seeds are actually fat burners instead of the sort of foods that causes people to pile on the pounds.
