The 22 year-old "The Voice" former contestant dies after a gunman attacked her following her concert.
Singer Christiana Grimmie, a former contestant on NBC’s “The Voice” died early Saturday after being shot at her Orlando concert.
The 22 year-old singer was reportedly signing autographs following her performance in Orlando’s Plaza Live venue late Friday night when a man carrying a gun walked up to her and opened fire.
Grimmie’s was rushed to the hospital in critical condition where she was later pronounced dead. The gunman killed himself too.
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord,” singer’s publicist Heather Weiss said in a statement.
“She was shot at her show in Orlando and unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning.
Grimmie’s starred in the 6th season of “The Voice” aired in 2014. She ended up finishing in third place. The singer had become a Youtube sensation before even taking part in the show. Her only studio album “With Love” was released on August 6, 2013.

Police is investigating the fatal shooting. However, the suspect is not identified yet. “The investigation is in its preliminary stage,” said police spokesperson Wanda Miglio. “We know there are many questions and we will do our best to answer them as the investigations unfolds.” Miglio also called Grimmie’s brother a hero who tackled the gunman and stopped him for hurting anyone else.
