The WWDC 2016 kicks off today in San Francisco. Here are the 10 things to know ahead of the Apple World Wide Developer Conference.

The WWDC 2016 will begin in a couple of hours. The annual gathering of Apple developers is taking place in San Francisco in the Bill Graham Civic Center. Tim Cook and his colleges are expected to unveil new features in Apple's operating systems, apps and services. To get you started we have gathered 10 things to know ahead of the WWDC 2016.

Tim Cook will kick off the WWDC 2016 keynote at 10am PDT. He will likely comment on the Orlando shooting in his opening. Cook took to Twitter on Sunday to express his support for the victims and their families.

The WWDC 2016 keynote will be streamed live online at the Apple site on this page. You need Safari on an Apple device or an Edge browser on a Windows 10 PC to watch the keynote online. 

Apple has apparently decided to increase security at the WWDC 2016 venue in response to to the mass shooting in Orlando. A photo shared on Twitter by Nick Frey shows how a technician installs metal detectors at the entrance of the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium.

The youngest developer attending the WWDC 2016 is just 9 years old. Anvitha Vijay from Melbourne, Australia has already released two apps. The pre-teen developer has been selected for the Apple scholarship program. She tought herself to code at the age of 7 watching Youtube videos and online tutorials.

Siri is going to be the center of attention at the WWDC 2016. Apple is expected to announce Siri on MacOS. Apple needs to catch up to Amazon's Alexa platform by opening Siri to developers. Reports already said that this will be the case. 

No new hardware will be revealed at the WWDC 2016. It is widely believed that Apple will not show any new hardware at the WWDC. They have not done so in past years. All hardware announcements are planned for Fall including the iPhone 7, Apple Watch 2 and 2016 MacBook Pro.

Subscriber numbers of Apple Music and key metrics of the App Store will be part of Tim Cook's keynote opening monologue. This has become a tradition.

OS X is rumored to be renamed to MacOS. If it will not be announced at the WWDC 2016 today it is not going to happen.

Apple Music is reportedly getting a major redesign. Apple's streaming music service is already a year old. It is off to a decent start, but Spotify is still very far ahead in terms of subscriber numbers.

Microsoft's E3 2016 media event is at the same time as the Apple WWDC 2016 keynote. The Microsoft video game presentation begins at 9:30am PDT. Fans of the Xbox and Apple are in a bind and have to jump back and forth to not miss any highlights of each show.
