I am sure everyone who doesn’t own the latest Apple iPhone felt disappointed when they realized that they would be unable to enjoy the rich notifications offered by iOS 10 as all of the demonstrations during the WWDC keynote were given using a 3D touch.

It makes an economic sense that Apple would want all of its consumers to own the latest iPhone. Certain economic or geographical scenarios might restrict the purchase of the newest device, but Apple has assured us not to worry. Even though all features are unavailable with the current beta but all upcoming iOS 10 betas will include all features, even for non 3D Touch devices.
So we don’t have to wallow in the despair of crushed excitement for too long as a statement by Apple confirms this “Support for rich notifications is optimized for 3D Touch, and in iOS 10 beta 1 the feature is available only on iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus. Future betas will provide access to this functionality for users of iPhone without support for 3D Touch”.
Currently only iPhone 6S and 6S Plus devices can enjoy all the rich notification features offered by the initial iOS 10 beta. But Apple is actively trying to come up with new betas which are going to solve this issue as well as get iOS10 ready for a public release. This shall result as an opportunity for developers who haven’t upgraded to a new model to become a part of rich notifications.

Rich notification is a fancy new feature which lets you access your notifications without going to the trouble of unlocking your iPhone and accessing the corresponding apps. This is quite easy to achieve with a pressure sensitive display such as that of an iPhone 6S or 6S Plus but will be an interesting challenge for Apple to incorporate it on the devices that do not support 3D Touch.
