Just when you might have started missing him, you would be glad to find out that CBS has engaged him on a more permanent basis. The show will be airing its fourteenth season this fall. Wilmer has been signed on as a regular on the show.
According to Deadline, Wilmer will be playing the role of an NCIS field agent who disappeared after accepting a deep cover assignment many years ago. He was lost for so long that many agents don't even know that he's still on the job or whether he's even alive. In the show, he will resurfaces and he'll be as dedicated to his job and country as ever. However after his years-long assignment he'll become an unpredictable, charismatic loose cannon.
Executive producer Gary Glasberg shed some light on Wilmer’s casting saying that fans are going to see him like they’ve never seen him before. He will be able to flex his dramatic, physical and comedic talents in this classic ‘NCIS’ role. Glasberg said that the project will be fun and the network is thrilled that he’s coming aboard.
Wilmer’s casting might ease the exit of fan favourite Michael Weatherly in the last season in May. He will be returning to the network in the fall playing a different role in another show. He is going to play a young version of Dr. Phil McGraw as a trial consultant in new drama Bull.
