The newly released Ghostbusters have encountered more flaws than successes to be considered a hit by the critics.
Ghostbusters reboot has been facing a lot of critique since the idea regulated. An all-female cast under the guidance of Paul Feig was something that many comedy enthusiasts were willing to stand behind. Especially with Paul Feig and Melissa McCarthy successes in the previous projects such as The Heat and Spy, Melissa McCarthy and Kristen Wiig’s success in Bridesmaids and SNL successes Katie McKinnon and Leslie Jones, the movie was as good as it might get when it came to comedic talent and harnessing it to its fullest potential.

Yet as soon as the trailer for the movie hit YouTube, it became the most hated trailer of all time. The former cast and people attached to the movie defended it quite fiercely. Feig and other people called it a reaction to the feminist approach of the movie. Another line of defence stated that the retaliation had been evoked by the nostalgia that the fans had for the original movie.
Meanwhile, Dan Aykroyd got in a good word for the movie as well and encouraged the fans of the original to actually go down and see the movie. Melissa McCarthy and the rest of the cast also supported and stood behind their project and promoted and defended it fiercely. It all came down to the movie itself. The release of the movie would determine which side is the winner in this battle.
The movie release was huge with the fans of the cast and the comedic genius involved in the movie. The cast made the event as big as they possibly could. The movie has however failed to impress the critics where they can start praising the movie for an all-out effort that it was claimed to be.
The critics have given their comments and according to the majority of the comments the movie has failed to deliver on some very crucial points. Paul Feig is known for putting an amazing twists on cliché action flicks and turning them into comedic masterpieces. That was not the case however with this movie.
According to the critics, the reboot tried so hard to live up or to match the original movie that it felt like a verbatim copy of the original, just with a female cast at some times. The scenes, plots and the thrills of the movies lacked in the opinion of most critics when they could have been the saving grace of the movie.
Majority of the critics have noted that the movie might have been a greater success if there have been a more original core story supporting the whole thing. However, from the story to some of the dialogues and the ideas seemed borrowed and repetitive in the reboot which made the audience feel like you have seen that before and not in the nostalgic way.
Some of the positive highlights of the movie is the characters. The ladies of course have to be credited for making their mark on the movie. Kristen Wiig’s Erin Gilbert and Melissa McCarthy’s Abby Yates have a great chemistry on-screen which reminded us of their chemistry from Bridesmaids. It was the amazing portrayal of the characters by the comedic genius of the female cast that might yet be the saving grace of this movie. Other than that, all critics seem to agree that Chris Hemsworth has been somewhat the highlight of the movie with his portrayal of the handsome yet dumb-witted assistant Kevin.

The movie might be a greater success among fans. Especially those who have not watched the original Ghostbusters and also the female fans who are all for women empowerment. The critics are calling it a failure in the long line of missed movies this year.
