The Secret Life of Pets Tops Ghostbusters at Box Office

Ghostbusters comes in at the number 2 spot after The Secret Life of Pets gets the number one spot.

Ghostbusters was one of the highly anticipated comedy movies of the year 2016. It was thought initially that it will be difficult for Ghostbusters to snatch the number one position of Secret Life of Pets. Well the speculations have come true. Ghostbusters was not able to achieve the highest rating this week however it still managed to do some great business. 

The reboot had a whooping opening of $46 million on opening weekend. Its earnings have marked the biggest opening for a biggest live action comedy movie of the year 2016. The last live comedy movie that made a record was Universal studio’s Pitch Perfect 2 which grossed around $69 million last year. 

The Secret Life of Pets stayed on the top position pretty easily this weekend. It was screened on 4,381 locations. It has earned a total of $254 million in the global market. However its earnings have certainly decreased by 52 percent.

Other than that Finding Dory is still creating history by being the number one animated movie to earn the best ratings and earnings. It has earned almost $445.5 million up till now. Earlier it was Shrek which had such huge amount of earnings. For the Weekend, Finding Dory was remained on spot number 4. It has earned a total of $721.8 million up till now all over the world. 

Ghostbusters director, Paul Feig hopes that a relaunch for the stories franchise will be made as well. However the box-office performance of this movie is suggesting otherwise. Only the final earnings will show the fate of further projects of this movie.

7. Central Intelligence - $5.3 million

8. The Infiltrator - $5.3 million

9. The BFG - $3.7 million

10. Independence Day: Resurgence - $3.5 million
