The Existence of Planet Nine Beyond Pluto Remains a Mystery

The existence of Planet Nine beyond Pluto remains pretty much a mystery. It is said to be ten times larger than our home planet.

Who hasn’t heard of Planet Nine? This is a yet-to-be-discovered planet that is ten times as big as the earth and lies just beyond Pluto. This, by the way, is not just another icy cousin planet.

Rather it is supposed to exist and the proof that has been given may have a lot going for it. Yet there remains one small hitch: it has not been discovered so far.

Most of the evidence regarding this planet is just circumstantial. Other objects that are said to exist out there (Nemesis and Planet X come to mind) pale in comparison to Planet Nine, according to Ronald Drimmel, Research Astronomer, Project Manager and Gaia Payload Expert.

Since visual evidence is the acid test, the possibility of a series of images of a faint object moving across the canopy of stars might lie among future discoveries.

While it is large, it is traveling at such a fast speed that catching even a single momentary glimpse of this planet is a virtually impossible task.

However, there are some very large telescopes that can descry such an object that travels at the speed of light (metaphorically speaking). A couple of signs and indicators would come in handy in our quest to find Planet Nine.

The original researchers have presented a recent paper which has put some more conditions regarding the whereabouts of this planet. Planet Nine may yet be hiding out there somewhere.

Additional hints may be forthcoming from the Cassini spacecraft which is near Saturn. Meanwhile, the latest hope is the Gaia satellite which is there to scan the whole sky. While it can detect a faint object, what is feared is that Planet Nine is even fainter than the faintest of objects.

Even if Gaia managed to capture the faintest outline of Planet Nine, it would still be hard to differentiate it from the rest of the objects out there in space. Some say that seeing Planet Nine is not necessary.

Any object of such dimensions would deform the space-time continuum surrounding it. It could thus be detected via this procedure. The possibility of an unseen object having an impact beyond Pluto might just hold some dose of reality.

Yet the ultimate thing which science wants is solid verifiable proof. Without this, no matter how many theories are generated, the whole venture is a wild goose chase.
