Don't Miss: Nintendo Switch: Everything You Need To Know
One reason for the size of the VR headset and additional space requirement is PlayStation Camera. The camera demands empty space around the player to be able to track them.
Gamers might be familiar with the act of clearing away furniture, pets etc. when they used PlayStation or Xbox-based movement controls but it is highly unlikely that they would have thought that the same actions would have to be repeated for the PS VR experience.
It appears as if Sony is quite keen on advising its potential consumers of the VR headset to remain seated during the game and to absolutely make sure that they are aware of all obstacles around them in case they need to stand up.
In Sony’s own words, “Clear an area larger than the Play Area of all obstacles before using PS VR and remain seated whenever possible. If the application requires you to stand while wearing the VR headset, follow the application instructions carefully, and maintain awareness of your surroundings”.
