Channing Tatum is going to be taking on the gender reversed role of a merman in the remake of Splash.
The 1984 sleeper hit Splash put the like of Daryl Hannah and Tom Hanks on the map of stardom. The movie revolved around the love story of Madison and Allen who meet from two different world and fall in love only to find out that Madison is truly a mermaid.
It was a dream project that gained a lot of attention and an Oscar nod as well for Best Original Screenplay. Directed by Imagine partners Ron Howard and Brian Grazer, the movie was a surprise hit.
The best part is that the movie is currently under consideration for a remake and this time it’s different.
Well, this time around we will be seeing the story in a gender reversed version. With the original idea generating from Jillian Bell, the movie will be re-imagined in gender reversed roles with Channing Tatum taking on Daryl Hannah’s part and he’ll be playing a merman, according to Deadline.
That’s right folks.
This time around, the guy is going to be playing the fish. Jillian Bell will be taking on Tom Hanks’ part in the movie. Both the actors have already worked together on 22 Jump Street. Director Ron Howard is set to produce the film, along with Tatum.
Marja-Lewis Ryan has been signed on to pen the script for the movie. The scribe recently finished up on the Timur Bekmambetov-produced Liked, and HBO and Tatum’s Free Association the college-set Unsupervised series.

Imagine’s Howard and Grazer will produce along with Free Association’s Tatum, Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran. Imagine’s Anna Culp will be executive producer. The project will be finalized to be distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture.
