The film’s first teaser trailer was released and it has peaked the attention of the audience to the fullest without giving anything away. The teaser is made brilliantly. Shot in dark tones with visuals and the soundtrack doing all the work to build the anticipation.
We see the sand drifting slowly along the wind, with a voice of a ticking clock heard clearly and the sound of the waves in the distance. A wider shot gives the view of the French coastline with cargo boxes in the distance and men further away and smoke can be seen as well, the ticking grows louder, the waves crash harder.
We then see a wall like structure which could be a ship from a view where the guns are perched against the edge and we see numerous men filing out slowly on the other side. Their helmets indicate that they are allied troops.
We also see the waves crashing against the structure, all the while the ticking grows louder and the waves crash harder. And we see the words, At the point of crisis; we see a man taking off his equipment belt and going towards the bolstering waves, followed by words.
At the point of annihilation; we see dead bodies covered in tarps lying on the beach with sand passing over them and men in the distance, the words that complete the teaser appear, Survival is Victory.
The ticking finally seizes and we see the inside of a ship where Allied troops are standing closely together and the noise of German bombers can be heard in the distance. One by one, all of them look up as the noise gets louder and louder and they all duck for cover as the noise slows to absolute silence.
It leaves the watcher numb and electrified. The whole teaser is just a composition of powerful images and sound. It needs no big names or appearances to give it relevance. The movie is due to release in Summer next year and has a great cast including Tom Hardy, Cillian Murphy, Sir Kenneth Branagh, Mark Rylance and Harry Styles.
