Astronomers still don’t know why the alien megastructure star has diminished in its brightness.
Astronomers’ favorite star is one that is supposedly surrounded by an alien megastructure. It remains a mystery. The star is known as KIC 8462852. Its flickering light is something which has baffled the scientists.

The astronomers have taken a more in-depth look at the star and they say that the light reaching us earthlings has dimmed by 3% over the past four years, according to an unpublished paper posted by arXiv. This dimmer effect is occurring only in case of this star and not its neighboring stars.
The experts hypothesized in the beginning that the star’s intermittent dimming was due to comet swarms. Yet this hypothesis seemed to lack any foundation when it was found that this star had been doing this since the past century or so.
Others contend that the evidence for this trend is too flimsy. So researchers decided to study this star in a deeper manner. The star which has been nicknamed the Tabby’s Star was gazed at through the Kepler Space Telescope.
The results are just in. They support the view that the light decrease in this star is significant. Furthermore, it is non-existent in the surrounding star system. Also it is not at all due to a comet cloud. This much is for sure.
A year ago, scientists declared the tentative hypothesis that alien structures were blocking the light from shining through as a null and void statement. The existence of aliens is a last chance hypothesis, according to Gizmodo via Engadget.
Besides it is highly unlikely to actually be the real reason behind the flickering light of the star. Agreed that it would explain away many of the contradictions in this view of the star, yet it is still far-fetched to even bring into consideration.

No new research has been done on the matter, so for now it has been put on the backburner. The dimmer effect still remains an enigma. No known stellar phenomena is sufficient to explain this anomaly in scientific data.
