The medical doctors have warned that very low diastolic blood pressure has been shown to cause heart problems in patients.
Medical records spanning a generation showed the vital signs of 11,000 Americans. One thing was clear and it was that getting the diastolic blood pressure into the lower digits caused damage to the heart tissue.

There is a word of caution that goes along with this warning though. That is that correlation does not equal causation. Low diastolic blood pressure is basically the pressure of blood in the arteries in between heartbeats.
This occurs when the heart is in a resting phase and there is a lower number reading of the blood pressure that registers on the instrument.
Therefore, it does not directly cause heart damage but the statistics show that a link may be present between the two. Therefore, anti-hypertensive drugs that take the blood pressure down to 120 in the systolic reading may harm those individuals who already have a low diastolic blood pressure.
That is below 80. The risk of damage incurred by the heart tissue is there lurking beneath the surface of symptoms.
Many physicians have said that a modification of the anti-hypertensive treatment may be employed in such circumstances. The SPRINT trial is obsolete and outdated as far as this situation is concerned.
The lesson that has been learnt the hard way is that in no way should physicians prescribe medicine in isolation to lower upper systolic blood pressure readings.
The lower diastolic reading has to be taken into account as well. This is necessary and couldn’t be done without. A summary of the findings was published in a journal.
The SPRINT trials showed the uses of aggressively treating high blood pressure via a series of anti-hypertensive drugs. 120/80 mm of mercury was the ideal reading that was the touchstone of glowing health according to the experts.
While the SPRINT study gave ideal results, there was a concern shown regarding such a hard-core treatment that employed such aggressive means of prophylaxis.
Those with a high risk of CV disease did benefit from this study. Yet those people who had a very low diastolic blood pressure to begin with did not do well while on this medical regimen.
They suffered especially as far as their heart tissue was concerned. The studies which were carried out showed that the damage to the hearts of these patients was very real.
Generally, high blood pressure causes all sorts of issues from heart attacks to strokes and kidney disease. Yet the cure depends on the dosage as is clear from these trial studies.
