If you didn't know it before today, you know now that League of Legends is the undisputable king of PC games. Over 100 million players are logging into play the game each and every months, and that number just keeps growing. The co-founders of Riot Games, Marc Merrill and Brandon Beck, told Polygon about the success fo their game in an interview. This is up from 2014 numbers, which showed 67 million players each month, according to Mashable.

The fact that the game keeps growing is a surprise to even its creators.
"We’ve kind of been in a reactionary mode," Beck told Phil Kollar. "Just like, holy crap, the game is getting really big and we have to keep up with the demands of our players."
Part of the appeal to so many players is that the game uses a free-play model. It allows anyone to download and play the game for free - all money is made through the purchase of in-game cosmetics and champions. It also has one of the largest followings on the esports scene, with leagues all over the world bringing people together online and through real life. Worlds 2015, the championships, saw 4.2 million average concurrent viewers.
The game first appeared in 2009 and has been growing ever since. Riot Games only has League of Legends as a title, but they are constantly updating it so that it is better, more fun, and more challenging. Sometimes fans get upset, but more often than not, they like it.
