As usual, many people have turned to gadget insurer SquareTrade to see how easily the phone would break if dropped. They also tested the water, once again finding that the iPhone survived just fine for a half an hour in a meter of water.
Unfortunately, the new iPhone broke when dropped at a similar rate as its predecessors did. The video shows that they used the same machine, the Tumblebot, one the same settings as they did for previous phones. One bright spot is that the 7 Plus did fare better than the 6s Plus did. No iPhones survive when they are dropped on the sidewalk, which is probably why everyone who bought one recently also had to get a gorilla glass cover and an expensive case - but since the phones are expensive, it is worth the few extra dollars.
