In the film, Lawrence and Pratt play two passengers on a 5,000 man vessel. The rest of the passengers are suspended in animation. The ship starts to malfunction and everyone is in grave danger. The official synopsis reads:
"Jennifer Lawrence and Chris Pratt are two passengers onboard a spaceship transporting them to a new life on another planet. The trip takes a deadly turn when their hibernation pods mysteriously wake them 90 years before they reach their destination. As Jim and Aurora try to unravel the mystery behind the malfunction, they begin to fall for each other, unable to deny their intense attraction... only to be threatened by the imminent collapse of the ship and the discovery of the truth behind why they woke up."
It is the first real look at the film that has been extremely hush-hush. When we got a few stills in August, the director sang the praises of the cast.
Michael Sheen, Laurence Fishburne, and Andy Garcia also stars in the movie, which was written by “Doctor Strange” screenwriter Jon Spaihts. Producers are Neal Moritz and Ori Marmur through Moritz’s Original Film banner, as well as Michael Maher for Start Media and Stephen Hamel of Company Films.
“Passengers” will hit North American theaters” on December 21, and will follow in all of the traditional markets.
