Niantic announced new updates for Pokemon Go, bringing a major change for Pokemon Go Plus users.
Niantic has started to roll out Pokemon Go app updates 0.39.0 for Android and 1.9.0 for iOS. The new releases follow just a week after the release of 0.37.1 and 1.7.1, that enabled Pokemon Go Plus.

The new updates of Pokemon Go bring a major change for trainers using Pokemon Go Plus. Trainers can now attempt to capture Pokemon they encounter from using Incense with the Pokemon Go Plus accessory. This was not possible before. The device did not allow to try to catch Pokemon that have spawned because of using Incense.
Pokemon Go Plus has supported to try to catch Pokemon that appeared because of a Lure module. Now you can also get notified and can try to capture those Pokemon you attracted with Incense. This feature is a win for Niantic as Pokemon Go Plus owners might be more enticed to now purchase incense. Will it bring back Pokemon Go to the top of the apps that make the most money on iTunes in the US? I doubt it.
The other new feature besides minor bug fixes is the addition of the location where a Pokémon was caught in the information screen.
This new Pokemon Go app update is great news for Pokemon Go Plus users, but the in-app nearby Pokemon tracker is still not available. Niantic has not communicated a release date when the in-app Pokemon finder function is coming back.
The Pokemon Go App Update 0.39.0 for Android is expected to be released first again. The roll-out will be gradually and not all Google Play customers will see the update at the same time. For those who cannot wait and do not mind the risk (potential threat of hidden malware) of downloading and install apps via APK files, can download the Pokemon Go AKP 0.39.0 on APKMirror now.
The Pokemon Go update 1.9.0 for iOS will show up on iTunes likely today September 23.
The Pokemon Go Plus is sold out until end of October. Only Walmart has had spotty inventory this week online. The Pokemon Go Plus device turned out more useful than believed. When connected, the Pokemon Go app continues to track distance even when the smartphone is in locked mode. This saves considerable battery life. Pokemon Go Plus uses flashing colors and vibrations to notify you about PokeStops and encounters of wild Pokemon.
