As we all know the expectations from October 4 are sky high but the tweet from Hiroshi Lockheimer instigated the hype further.
We announced the 1st version of Android 8 years ago today. I have a feeling 8 years from now we'll be talking about Oct 4, 2016.— Hiroshi Lockheimer (@lockheimer) September 24, 2016
Hiroshi happens to be the Senior Vice President of Google and is also the in charge of Android, the Google Chrome Operating system and manages Google Play as well. The tweet basically questioned as to what was so special about this release that it would be reverberating even after a decade. It might be new Google hardware with some state of the art software and services to complete the package. However as we have observed in published reports.
Below are all the things Google might be show casing on Tuesday.
• We might see the addition of two new phones but they will take up the name ‘Pixel’ instead of Nexus.
• We might see more details on the pricing and availability on Google Home which is the Amazon Echo competitor.
• The 4k Chromecast video streamer may also be upgraded
• The OnHub might see a successor.
• We may see more information being given out on Day Dream
• Lets even anticipate a new Pixel tab or even a laptop for that matter
• Lastly we can also imagine a whole new operating system which combines both the key elements of Android and Chrome Operating system.
So that was an overview of what we may observe but let us break it down supposing all is rumor and add a bit of the meaty facts in too. Let’s start off with Pixel.
The New Pixel Phone
It is believed that Google is discarding the Nexus brand name and reintroducing its phones by the name of pixel. Some independent sources are of the claim that an announcement of two phones will be made named as for one we all know Pixel and the other as Pixel XL. The phones will have different screen sizes, the smaller one might have a 5 inch display and on the other hand the larger one could have a 5.5 screen.
These phones will most probably be manufactured by HTC and will have a starting price of $650 and without a doubt the Pixel XL will have a higher cost. They might also offer a financing plan which will be available through Google. Following Apple care’s footsteps they may also offer an extended color. Android Police has claimed that the phones will be available in three different colors. Black, a very bright blue and aluminum will be the color options.Google Store and Verizon will be used as a selling medium in the United States.
Google Home Plug in Speakers
In May we already observed the announcement of the Google Home smart speaker. This is similar to Echo-like. This plug in speaker will have an ‘OK Google’ built in digital voice assistant and will in effect be able to play your favorite music in the whole house. It will also be able to switch on the lights, keep a check on traffic and most evidently will be able make a Google query.
It is said that Google hosted a closed door meeting which about 50 people attended and the participants included most of the big names we know of in the home audio industry. Variety reported that Google encouraged the participants to make their own built up versions of the Google Home. Nevertheless, we are hoping to get more details on the charges and availability of this system on October 4. Android Police claims that the plug in speakers will priced more than $129.
Chromecast Ultra Video Streamer
Android Police recently leaked out the news that Google might introduce a new digital media streamer known as the Chromecast Ultra. This device is considered to rival 4k streamers from Roku and other such companies. This streamer will be priced almost $69 which is actually double the retail price of Chromecast dongle which is currently working.
A New Wi-Fi Router
Google might introduce a brand new Wi-Fi router named as Google Wi-Fi. It will have great features which will take it a step ahead from the typical WI-FI routers we have observed. As per the reports by Android Police the users can establish multiple WI-FI points and at the very same time may also cast across a singular large wireless network.
The same source also revealed to the Android Police that the router’s size will be similar to that of the Amazon Echo Dot. Once again the router is estimated to cost $129 and will be in effect a successor to OnHub.
Daydream VR Platform
Google has finally managed to showcase its virtual reality dream through the DayDream VR platform. This was also announced in May at the Google I/O conference held earlier in may. A Bloomberg report states that the Daydream VR will be incorporated in the Android 7.0 Nougat OS. Google is also rumoured to establish a partnership with other companies to deliver phones which will aim to make Daydream the best virtual reality experience.
These companies include
Back in May Clay Bavor said that his company just aimed to make the paramount smartphone experience based on the Daydream VR.
A New Tablet
Android Police has reported that Google is to give out a new laptop as well as a tablet which will have novel and unique Operating system known as Andromeda. This operating system happens to be a collaboration of Android and Chrome Operating system. Andromeda will be first launched on a Huawei tablet having a Nexus brand name which is actually quite confusing as at first it was thought that Google was getting rid of the Nexus name.
However Android Police claims that an ultra-thin laptop known as Pixel 3 is expected to be released by the end of 2017 and that certainly indicates we won’t hear anything about this on the stage a year earlier. Consequently Andromeda happens to be a long term rumor we will not be observing on October 4.
What You Should Not Be Expecting
Google has pulled off the Project Ara modular phone from the table for now.
This phone was aimed to have swappable parts. Well we won’t be seeing that for now. An indication has been made by Google that it is delaying its next major wearable update till 2017 again. We were expecting the consumer version of Android 2.0 to be out this fall but tough luck.
Stay tuned as we updated this post with latest updates.
