The Google October 4 event will bring new Virtual Reality hardware says new report.

Google is reportedly unveiling the Google Daydream VR headset today at the October 4 event. The Google VR headset is similar to the Samsung Gear VR and will retail for $79 reports Variety.

The Google VR headset is according to Variety's sources designed to work with the two new leaked Google Pixel Phones. Google unveiled the Daydream VR platform in May at the Google I/O 2016. Daydream is not just an extension of Android, but also requires special hardware features. Only new upcoming Android phones will work with Daydream.

The Daydream VR headset requires users to slide in their smartphone to be used as a display. Google bundles a wiimote like remote as input device to the Daydream VR headset.

The new Google Pixel phones are made by HTC and the Daydream VR headset is likely also manufactured by HTC. The Taiwanese company has bet big on virtual reality and the Daydream VR headset deal strengthens HTC stance against Samsung.

The Google October 4 event will be streamed live on Youtube starting at 9am PDT.
