Everything We Know About Google Pixel Phones

Cyber Week: Find the Best Cyber Deals

Here is an overview of Google Pixel phones announced yesterday.

Okay so the long rumored Google Phones are finally out and we simply can’t get our eyes off of them. The new introduced phones are known as Pixel and Pixel XL. These phones are quite a big deal for Google as they happen to be the first flagship Android Phones which will not be using the previous ‘Nexus’ brand name.

The newly introduced Pixel phones will actually reflect Google’s idea of user and phone direct interaction. However the phones still contain many of the characteristics found in a Classic Nexus. For example they have a little to no wireless carrier modifications. This feature automatically makes them the purest version of Android you can get your hands on.

These devices will also be one of the first to receive updates when they come out. The Pixel XL is available in three colours in the US. They include ‘very silver’, ‘quite black’ and ‘really blue’. The colours are good but nothing you haven’t seen before.

Google Assistant

One of the most exciting features of Pixel is the usage of Google Assistant. This artificial intelligent companion is similar to Siri but the underlying difference is that it is powered by the all knowing Google search engine and thus is able to answer more elaborately and perform much complicated tasks.

The Google Assistant works great for Android users and can be a big help in finding photos making plans and operating your smart home. Many people are looking forward to this feature because it is anticipated to give a better experience than Siri. ‘Ok Google’ are the magic words which activate Google Assistant on Pixel or you may simply press and hold the home button.

The assistant can help you out on your task if you’re on your home screen or even in an app for that matter. For instance, ‘show me photos from previous june’ will display images in your phone from that date.

Fingerprint

Users having experience with the Nexus 6P and 5X will obviously be attracted to the new Pixel phones and will immediately recognize that finger print sensors are like before on the back of the smart phones. This was a very peculiar choice made by Google but we actually like it that way.

The finger print reader placed on the back actually feels easier to use instead of placing a thumb on the home button. You will get used to it in no time.

3.5 mm audio jack and waterproof

Wired headphone users are in for a relief as both the Pixel phones have a headphone jack. The Pixel phones are actually made to compete with the iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 plus directly and to be honest most of the hardware is compatible enough.

Even though the hardware is competing with the iPhone the Pixel is still not water proof or dustproof as most flagship Android phones usually are. This is even more surprising as the iPhone 7 includes both the features. The headphone jack might be bait for some people but our advice would be to ignore that and go for other features of the Pixel.

Specifications

The new phones have a huge improvement in the hardware when compared to the older models. Both the Pixels have a Snapdragon 821 Processor which gives them a more improved ability to run 4K videos and operate multiple apps. Both the phones are also loaded with 4GB of RAM. In comparison the Nexus 6P had Snapdragon 810 processor.

Display

The Pixel XL features a 5.5 inches screen with 534ppi whereas the smaller Pixel has a 5-inch screen with 441ppi. This is almost the same as last year’s Nexus 5X. We are pretty excited as to how these phones will perform in our hands on tests.

Camera

The Pixel phones have a 12-megapixel rear camera which is quite good for an average user. However the Pixel phone camera will not perform well in low light and will give poor results in comparison to the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy S7.

This is because the Pixel has a f/2.0 lens whereas he iPhone 7 has f/1.8 and Galaxy S7 has a f/1.7. However these specifications have not prevented Google from boasting the camera abilities. Believe it or not the Pixel phones have an 89 DXO Mark Mobile rating which is the highest rating any phone has ever got.

Now that is pretty impressive in itself.Google is claiming that it has made the best camera phone but we will be only assured once we have seen it.

USB-C

One of the last things to come in notice about the Pixel Phones is that they are making use of USB-C ports for chargers. This quality is pretty rare because even though numerous products do rely on USB-C chargers for charging the most popular phones Galaxy S7 and iPhone 7 don’t. Now that Pixel is using the USB-C for charging it will definitely set a new trend.

Pricing and Carrier

A huge bummer is that these phones will be exclusive to Verizon. This will actually make the phones fall short of the main stream attention Google is in hope for. However, the silver lining is always there and in this case Google store will have the Pixel unlocked. The Pixel Phones come with a heavy price tag. The phones have a price starting from $650 and will be available for pre order from today.
