Black Friday creep has pushed the store opening hours for Black Friday sales to Thanksgiving Day. Stores opened as early as 6am for Black Friday sales events on Thanksgiving Day last year. A growing number of retailers have changed their mind about having their stores open on Thanksgiving Day. Staples, GameStop, Sam's Club, Costco, Home Depot and Lowe's are some of the most prominent retail chains that are closed on Thanksgiving Day.

This week the largest mall in America made headlines with the announcement to stay closed on Thanksgiving Day. The Black Friday 2016 sale at Mall of America begins at 5am on Black Friday. If really the whole mall is shut remains to be seen as individual stores could decide to open.
